The Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response Center (STAR) is committed to raising awareness of sexual violence, gaining community support to help eliminate sexual assault and gender violence, and providing a support system for survivors of rape and sexual abuse in the Baton Rouge community. STAR provides three core services to the community: advocacy, support and education.
- Our advocacy services include a 24 hour crisis hotline and 24 hour medical advocates available assist survivors and their loved ones immediately after an assault occurs, or when referrals or information is needed.
- Our support services include short-term individual counseling, therapy groups, and support groups offered to survivors in their loved ones.
- Our education services include prevention and intervention outreach to schools, youth-serving agencies, social service agencies, college campuses, and other professional staff to train people on how to prevent and respond to sexual violence. In addition, our center has several evidence-based curricula used for prevention education with children and teens.
All services are confidential and free of charge.
