New Beginnings

posted Nov 30, 2011 8:52 AM by Racheal Hebert

Our Center is embarking on a new journey. After years of deliberation, our Center has decided to become an official non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. This means that our organization will be experiencing many changes in the coming months as we begin our transition. We will continue to have support from the District Attorney, who is committed to helping our Center succeed in this new endeavor. By moving out from the umbrella of the DA’s Office, our Center will have the opportunity to expand services and staff members, to provide more comprehensive care to our community.

For the time being, little will change in our operation. We hope to take this time during our transition to inventory our services and perform an ongoing community needs assessment to determine ways we can better serve our clients.

I thank you for your commitment to the Center and our mission and philosophy.

Sincerely,

Jane Wood
Executive Director

Halt Sexual Assault!

posted Sep 30, 2011 12:32 PM by Racheal Hebert

Sexual assault occurs to individuals across all races, classes, ethnicities, and ages. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 33 men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. In 90% of sexual assault cases, the perpetrator is known to the victim and is likely someone they trust. Here are some ways you can prevent sexual violence:
  1. Don’t laugh at any jokes that put down women or blame victims
  2. Boycott products that glamorize sexual violence or woman-bashing
  3. Understand the myths and realities of rape
  4. Always base sexual relations on a firm “yes”
  5. Don’t misuse the word rape. It’s not a joke.
  6. Practice healthy, non-violent attitudes and behaviors
  7. Talk to kids about healthy behavior and physical and emotional boundaries
  8. Support your local Rape Crisis Center with your time or money, or both!
Do your part. Step up, step in: prevent sexual assault. Get involved today!
